For years I have dealt with the symptoms of anxiety and nervousness, these feelings are heightened during periods of academic, professional and personal pressure, but even during calmer periods the feelings are latent and ready to respond to any number of triggers. I know that a lot of people experience these feelings (heart palpitations, tingly hands and feet, nausea, insomnia, shakes and tremors, etc) so I wanted to share some of the ways I have learned to cope, in case it helps anybody else who is feeling a bit helpless. I have found the following remedies really helpful: - Fusion Health Stress & Anxiety tablets. These are natural vitamins that help to reduce nervousness, fatigue, and mild anxiety. - Lavender tea. The mere scent of lavender calms your mind and body, and drinking this tea first thing in the morning is a really pleasant way to begin the day. Apparently this tea is also useful for people who suffer from depression. - Scented candles, especially lavender! - Burning peppermint oil, or putting a little of the oil under your nose. - Meditation. YouTube has a lot of guided meditation videos that really help to switch off a busy mind. - Cardio exercises are terrific for burning off nervous energy. I’ve also stopped drinking coffee as it gave me unexplained nervousness and caused me to shake. Avoiding junk food is obvious, and trying to sleep at least 7 hours a night doesn’t hurt. Overcoming anxiety and nervousness means rethinking what it means to be scared, too. I have found it helpful to think about the symptoms of anxiety and extreme excitement as being interchangeable. When we’re excited our hearts beat faster and we get sweaty palms, the same thing happens when we’re nervous; the only difference is that we choose to identify fear with one and not the other. Our minds create fearful scenarios. Therefore, if we can think fearfully, we can also “un-think” it. We’re in control of our thoughts, they don’t control us. 51 notes
